When I Say...

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin."
I'm whispering "I was lost," Now I'm found and forgiven.

When I say..."I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou.
I was a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow.

I LOVE this poem by Maya Angelou! It speaks volumes, doesn't it?

I wish my SIL (Paul's sister) would read it and reflect on it for a while. She grew up in this wonderful Christian home, but claims all Christians are hypocrites. She did witness and experience some things that have hardened her heart and made her who she is, but God's grace is sufficient for everyone. And it is available to everyone!

I am sad for her little boy who has to grow up hearing her criticize the Christian church; why, even for the longest time she wouldn't allow us to pray with him or in front of him. We can only pray for her and love her as our Heavenly Father does.

What a humbling, yet uplifting poem. Maya Angelou is such an inspiration, and reminds us so eloquently in this poem that it's not what WE do, but what GOD does.

Have a nice day,
C

Vicky- How heartbreaking! I can relate to your SIL a bit. In the years leading up to my rebellion, I heard and witnessed some terrible things both in our new church in GA and back home in MI. Much of it led to me questioning this or that and being to wonder how "real" the Bible really was is religious leaders could do & say certain things they did. Thankfully, God taught me some lessons, and I pray the same might happen for your SIL someday. :o(

How well spoken! Her words are truly beautiful and describe the state of being a Christian so eloquently!

Mrs. Brigham,

Thank you for the thoughtful comments you posted on my blog. I am going to 'pitch' the idea of a more natural dish soap to DH and was wondering what your reasons behind switching were.

I have to agree with you about the food network (from your comments). I think that watching it before baby boy was born and shortly after we married is what really influenced my ways in the kitchen. My mom commented to me once that she taught me how to cook well, but very few recipes or techniques came from her style of cooking. I joke with Mr. S sometimes when he compliments my cooking that 'see, it's the food network.' Not that we need a television to distract us, but it is enjoyable from time to time.
